Passport to Global Cultures

At Seventy-First High School, the "Passport to Global Cultures" Program, led by Carmen Villalobos, seeks to expose students to various cultures and develop knowledge, understanding, and appreciation for different communities worldwide. The "Passports to Global Cultures" program focuses on and promotes the Arabic language and culture.

Teacher PD Day ‘Climate Change Integration’

Deadline Date

Mr. Abdelrahman Dawoud's project "Teacher PD Day' Climate Change Integration'" focuses on training teachers to implement climate change into lesson plans for students. The project is divided into three sessions. The first will be on climate change and its effects, the second focuses on language used in the classroom, and the final session is for hands-on activities. The project will promote awareness of climate change and its direct impact on teachers and how they, in turn, can promote awareness to students.

Hot Pot is the Staff of Life

Ms. Lin’s “Hot Pot is the Staff of Life” project engaged participants in the cultural and historical significance of the hot pot of traditional cuisine. In the classroom, Ms. Lin taught the students about the history of hot pot in China, common ingredients used in the hot pot, the ingredients’ symbolism, and how to use chopsticks. Next, the students, their families, and school staff visited a local Chinese grocery store and restaurant to experience the hot pot firsthand.

Moulay Tahar Kettani (Maple Street Magnet School for the Arts, MI) students, playing a game on their smartphones, practice the numbers one through ten in Arabic.

Lin Wan-Lin (Butler Academy, SC) plays the Very Hungry Caterpillar animated picture book in Mandarin as an activity for students to show they recognize the Mandarin phrase and can locate the caterpillar.

Ola Sofi (West Sylvan Middle School, OR) has her students practice a skit at a market by partaking in role-play scenarios where they have little money to spend.
