TCLP Teachers Meet U.S. Senator

Exchange teachers and their mentors introduce Wisconsin Senator to TCLP

 

Exchange teachers Nashaat Mehany and Xing Yali experienced an exciting turn of events on their flight from Washington, DC to their U.S. host communities following the TCLP orientation in August.

Both exchange teachers were accompanied by mentor teachers from their host schools, who recognized that one of their fellow passengers was Wisconsin Senator Tammy Baldwin. After introducing themselves and the program, the exchange teachers had an opportunity to pose for pictures with the senator from their host state.

American Host Communities Welcome TCLP Teachers

Exchange teachers experience positive receptions during their first weeks in the U.S.

 

This fall, schools across the U.S. geared up to welcome students back to class. For the 23 schools that will participate in TCLP this year, the welcome preparations started much earlier.

Over the summer, TCLP host schools prepared for the arrival of their new Arabic and Mandarin teachers by planning activities to introduce them to their communities. Events scheduled for the exchange teachers included welcome parties, school receptions, city tours, hiking in national parks, picnics, and much more.

TCLP Alumni meet U.S. Department of State Director of Global Educational Programs in Beijing

 

Anthony Koliha, Director of Global Educational Programs at the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State visited TCLP alumni in Beijing on Sunday, July 19th. TCLP alumni Gao Jinghua, Yu Bo, Sun Ling, Yang Jing and American Councils Program Officer, Wang Hui had the opportunity to eat lunch and share experiences with Mr. Koliha. TCLP alumni talked about how U.S. students enjoyed learning Chinese and how they applied what they learned in the U.S. to their English classes after they returned to China.

TCLP May Virtual Spring Workshop

Exchange teachers from across the country connect online in a culminating program workshop

 

After spending a year in the U.S., TCLP teachers demonstrate established leadership skills in the classroom and stand poised to emerge fully as leaders in their school and community at home. The Virtual Spring Leadership Workshop on May 6-8, 2015 provided current TCLP participants with an opportunity to reflect on their experiences as exchange teachers in the U.S. and prepare for their return home as teacher leaders.
