TCLP Welcomes the 11th Cohort of Exchange Teachers during Orientation in Washington DC

The 11th cohort of exchange teachers from China, Egypt, and Morocco prepare to take on roles as educators and cultural ambassadors in their host schools and communities.

After months of anticipation, TCLP exchange teachers arrived in Washington, DC on August 1st to begin their exchange year in the United States. Throughout the nine-day orientation, participants attended workshops that prepared them to effectively teach and motivate U.S. students, including sessions on Backward Design lesson planning, cooperative and student-centered instructional methods, Multiple Intelligences theory, and American English. Participants also worked with pedagogical experts to create demo lesson plans and had the opportunity to test them with volunteer students.

TCLP Alumna Mentor Teacher Recognized at Global Teaching Dialogue

Four years ago, Etowah High School in Woodstock, Georgia became the first school in its district to offer Mandarin Chinese as a foreign language. The program started with an inaugural class of 11 students and an exchange teacher funded by TCLP. Today, the program has grown to serve 68 students and will offer 5 levels of classes in the 2017-18 academic year.

In December, TCLP teacher Mohamed El-Dwiny’s Arabic II students at John W. Lavelle Preparatory Charter School in Staten Island, New York got the opportunity to connect with their previous TCLP Arabic teacher, Amany Kasab (2015-16), and her English classroom in Egypt over Google Hangout.
