Project Type:
School Project
Award Project Round:
Deadline Date:
Thursday, November 30, 2017

Ivy Yiu, mentor teacher at North Warren Regional, won a CLP grant for students enrolled in Chinese 1 classes to attend a field trip to the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia to see the Terracotta Warriors Exhibit. Upon returning from the trip, students will research the history of this part of Chinese history and develop a presentation to share with the entire school community. The presentation will be made available for the entire student community during unit lunch. Students will also utilize the augmented reality app available from the Franklin Institute for other students and attendees who could not join the field trip and utilize technology to view the Terracotta Warriors. The presentation will be conducted using "centers". Attendees will have the opportunity to lean about the Chinese language, practice speaking phrases, create their own Chinese names, practice Chinese calligraphy brush writing and learn to read the characters. The augmented reality viewing will be another activity center. The scope of the project will be expanded to include local elementary and middle schools as permissions for visits are received.
